Hi, my name is Joey Kern. I graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering and minor in Computer Science from Johns Hopkins University in 2021. Shortly after, in 2023, I graduated from the Carlson School of Management with a master’s degree in Applied Business Analytics – where I played a year of basketball for the University of Minnesota.

Many people come up with new apps or innovative technological ideas. I felt that being well versed in both software and hardware would give me a strong chance to act on some of the innovative ideas that pop into my brain. I spent the summer of 2020 interning for DraftKings Inc. and was amazed by how personal everyone was and how hard they work. I was offered a full-time job here as a Business Data Analyst beginning in the fall of 2021 and initially accepted the offer. After I accepted the job I was given the opportunity to continue my basketball career while working towards my master’s. Playing Division I basketball had long been a dream of mine and I’m proud to have lived out that dream at The University of Minnesota during the 2021-22 season.

I currently work as an analyst for Morgan Stanley here in West Des Moines, Iowa. In this role, I assist on a wealth management book as well as the 1042 ESOP team – helping business owners access their wealth, maintain their legacy, and reward their employees through employee stock ownership plans and other exit strategies.
